The JUCJET UV-K5(8) is a dual band handheld for licensed amateur operators. It transmits on the 2 m and 70 cm amateur bands at up to 5 W, and its receiver covers 50–600 MHz, including the AM air band, FM broadcast radio and 10 NOAA weather channels. What Sets It Apart

FAQ

Do I need a licence?
Yes, to transmit. The UV-K5(8) transmits only on amateur bands, and using them requires an amateur radio licence from your national regulator. It is not a licence-free PMR446 or FRS radio.

How is it different from the JUCJET K5?
The UV-K5(8) is the updated version. Its published specification includes a 50–600 MHz receiver with the AM air band, 10 NOAA weather channels, three power levels (High / Mid / Low) and fast copy of a single channel with the frequency meter. The K5 page lists 1 W / 5 W power and ships with a headset and USB-C cable. The two models are sold as separate products, and the K5’s reviews are for the K5 only.

Which transmit bands will my radio have?
The US version transmits on 144–148 and 420–450 MHz. The EU/UK version transmits on 144–146 and 430–440 MHz. Both receive 50–600 MHz.

Can I transmit on the air band?
No. Air band reception (108–136 MHz AM) is listen-only. Rules on monitoring aviation traffic differ by country, so check yours.

Does NOAA weather work outside North America?
The 10 NOAA channels receive US and Canadian weather broadcasts. Elsewhere those channels are usually silent; FM radio and the rest of the receiver work as normal.

How do I program it?
From the keypad and menu; by reading a nearby radio with the frequency meter; by copying channels wirelessly from another radio; or from a PC with compatible software and a 2-pin programming cable (not included). The USB-C port charges the radio and does not carry data.

Which menu language does it use?
English. We only sell the English-menu version.

How far can it talk?
The specification gives no range figure, so we do not quote one. With up to 5 W on 2 m / 70 cm, the longest range comes in open, unobstructed line of sight; buildings, trees and hills shorten it, and a local repeater extends it.
