Quick start
- Charge first. The 88E has a rechargeable battery. Charge every radio fully before the first trip; charging details and the indicator are explained in the user manual.
- Switch on and choose a channel. Radios from the same 88E set are made to talk to each other out of the box – the 88E is our “nothing to configure” family set. If two radios cannot hear each other, check that both are on the same channel (table below).
- Talk. Press and hold the PTT (push-to-talk) button, wait half a second, then speak; release to listen. The short pause stops the first syllable being cut off, which is often mistaken for a weak signal.
- Flashlight. The 88E has a built-in flashlight for the tent or the walk back to the car.
- Everything else is in the user manual. If you no longer have it, email ka@jucjet.com with “88E manual” in the subject line.
Channels & frequencies
The 88E is a 16-channel PMR446 radio. PMR446 is the harmonised European licence-free band between 446.0 and 446.2 MHz: 16 analogue channels, 12.5 kHz apart, starting at 446.00625 MHz. Every PMR446 radio of every brand uses exactly these frequencies – which is why different brands can talk to each other.
| Channel | Frequency (MHz) |
|---|---|
| 1 | 446.00625 |
| 2 | 446.01875 |
| 3 | 446.03125 |
| 4 | 446.04375 |
| 5 | 446.05625 |
| 6 | 446.06875 |
| 7 | 446.08125 |
| 8 | 446.09375 |
| 9 | 446.10625 |
| 10 | 446.11875 |
| 11 | 446.13125 |
| 12 | 446.14375 |
| 13 | 446.15625 |
| 14 | 446.16875 |
| 15 | 446.18125 |
| 16 | 446.19375 |
Range: what to expect
Range is set by physics and by law, not by the brand: PMR446 limits every licence-free radio in Europe to 0.5 W ERP with a fixed antenna, so no PMR446 radio – the 88E included – has a legal advantage in range. What matters is the terrain and whether the two antennas can “see” each other:
- Town or city, buildings in between: 300 m – 1.5 km
- Campsite, park, suburb: about 0.5 – 2 km – plan on 1–2 km for the 88E at a campsite
- Open flat ground, beach, field: 1 – 3 km
- Hilltop to hilltop with nothing in between: 10 km+
The “5 km” on some of our older 88E packaging describes that hilltop-to-hilltop case, not a town. Getting higher and holding the antenna vertical and away from your body add more range than any hardware change. Full explanation, terrain table and tips: How far do PMR446 walkie talkies really reach?

FAQ
- Do I need a licence to use the 88E?
- No. Within the EU the 88E works on PMR446, which is licence-free: you can use it straight away. It is licence-free in the UK as well.
- Can the 88E talk to walkie talkies from other brands?
- Yes. Any PMR446 radio can talk to any other, as long as both are on the same channel and use the same CTCSS/DCS code (or no code on both). If the other radio only shows its frequency, use the table above.
- Is the 88E suitable for children?
- Yes. One-button push-to-talk, no SIM card, internet or mobile signal needed – made so kids can play freely while parents stay in touch. Sold as 2-, 4- and 6-packs, so the whole family is on one channel.
- Can I use the 88E in the UK or the USA?
- In the UK, yes – PMR446 is licence-free there too. In the USA, no: the PMR446 frequencies are not open for this use there; you need an FRS radio instead. Please do not use the 88E in the USA.
- Which headset or earpiece fits the 88E?
- The 88E uses a standard 2-pin connector. Our braided headset with PTT (2-/5-pack) and our 6-pack acoustic-tube earpiece are both 2-pin and list the 88E as compatible. Every 88E set currently includes a free 2-pack braided headset – see Accessories below.
- I cannot find my model or the software – what now?
- Email ka@jucjet.com with the model name printed on the radio and what you need (manual, software, spare part); we will point you to the right file.
- What if my 88E stops working?
- Every 88E comes with a 2-year manufacturer warranty and 30-day returns. Email ka@jucjet.com with your order number and a short description of the problem.
