The JUCJET UV-K1(8) is a dual band handheld for licensed amateur operators. It transmits on the 2 m and 70 cm amateur bands at up to 5 W, and its wideband receiver covers 50–600 MHz, including the AM air band, FM broadcast radio and NOAA weather channels. 200 channels sit on 2 MB of flash memory, each with a name you can edit. Factory-direct, sold and supported by JUCJET.

What Sets It Apart

• 50–600 MHz wideband receive — follow the AM air band (108–136 MHz, listen only), FM broadcast radio (76–108 MHz, 20 presets) and 10 NOAA weather channels, with rated FM sensitivity of −123 dBm across 136–470 MHz.
• Dual band amateur transmit, up to 5 W — High / Mid / Low power selectable. The US version transmits on 144–148 / 420–450 MHz, the EU/UK version on 144–146 / 430–440 MHz. An amateur radio licence is required to transmit.

FAQ

Do I need a licence?
Yes, to transmit. The UV-K1(8) transmits only on amateur bands, and using them requires an amateur radio licence from your national regulator. It is not a licence-free PMR446 or FRS radio; if you need one of those, see our licence-free models.

Which transmit bands will my radio have?
The US version transmits on 144–148 and 420–450 MHz. The EU/UK version transmits on 144–146 and 430–440 MHz. Both receive 50–600 MHz.

Can I transmit on the air band?
No. Air band reception (108–136 MHz AM) is listen-only. Rules on monitoring aviation traffic differ by country, so check yours.

Does NOAA weather work outside North America?
The 10 NOAA channels receive US and Canadian weather broadcasts. Elsewhere those channels are usually silent; FM radio and the rest of the receiver work as normal.

Standard or Large battery?
The 1400 mAh Standard version is the smallest and lightest (210 g). The 2500 mAh Large version is 22 mm taller and 60 g heavier, runs longer between charges, and its battery can be charged on its own through a USB-C port.

How do I program it?
From the keypad and menu; by reading a nearby radio with the frequency meter; by cloning another UV-K1(8) wirelessly; or from a PC through the USB-C port. A USB-C data cable is not included.

How far can it talk?
The specification gives no range figure, so we do not quote one. With up to 5 W on 2 m / 70 cm, the longest range comes in open, unobstructed line of sight; buildings, trees and hills shorten it, and a local repeater extends it.
