The JUCJET 5R Mini is a dual band handheld for licensed amateur operators. It puts 999 channels, two PTT keys and a 1.44-inch colour display in a body of 108 × 52 × 37 mm and 200 g, and you set it up over Bluetooth from a phone app instead of a cable. It charges by USB-C and also listens to FM broadcast and the AM air band. Factory-direct, sold and supported by JUCJET.

⚠️ Transmitting on amateur frequencies requires a valid amateur radio licence in your country. Air band and broadcast reception are listen-only.

What Sets It Apart

• Dual band, 5 W / 2 W — Dual band amateur transmit at 5 W or 2 W: the US version transmits on 144–148 / 420–450 MHz, the EU/UK version is locked to 144–146 / 430–440 MHz. Receive covers FM broadcast (76–108 MHz), the AM air band (108–136 MHz) and VHF/UHF. An amateur radio licence is required to transmit.
• App programming over Bluetooth — Program it from your phone: switch on Wireless CPS (MENU + 4) and set channels over Bluetooth with the phone app — no cable needed. For bulk edits, PC programming with CPS software or CHIRP is also supported, and the keypad does everything on the spot.
• 999 channels, quick setup — 999 memory channels, each with its own CTCSS (67–254.1 Hz) or DCS tone, power level and 25 / 12.5 kHz spacing. Frequency Search reads a nearby radio's frequency and tone so you can save it as a channel in seconds.
• Dual PTT and dual watch — Two PTT keys, two channels: PTT-A transmits on the upper channel and PTT-B on the lower, while dual watch keeps both on the 1.44-inch colour display. Repeater offset, one-key reverse, talkaround and a 1750 Hz tone are built in.
• Small body, USB-C battery — Pocket size: 108 × 52 × 37 mm and 200 g with battery. The 7.4 V 1600 mAh Li-ion pack charges through its own USB-C port from a wall adapter, power bank or car socket. VOX, DTMF, a programmable side key, torch and stopwatch round it off.

FAQ

Do I need a licence?
Yes, to transmit. The 5R Mini transmits only on the 2 m and 70 cm amateur bands, and using them requires an amateur radio licence from your national regulator. Listening to FM broadcast, the air band or VHF/UHF needs no transmit licence, but check your local rules on monitoring. It is not a licence-free PMR446 or FRS radio — if you need one of those, see our licence-free models.

Which transmit bands will my radio have?
The US version transmits on 144–148 and 420–450 MHz. The EU/UK version is band-locked to 144–146 and 430–440 MHz, the amateur allocations used in Europe. The version you receive matches the market you order from.

How do I program it?
Four ways: the phone app over Bluetooth (press MENU + 4 to turn on Wireless CPS, then pair); PC software (CPS or CHIRP; programming cable not included — ask us which one fits before you buy); Frequency Search, which copies the frequency and tone of a nearby radio; or the keypad and menu.

What about the battery and charging?
It uses a 7.4 V 1600 mAh rechargeable Li-ion battery with a USB-C port on the battery itself. The light shows red while charging and green when full. Charge between 5 °C and 40 °C, and switch the radio off for a complete charge. We have no verified runtime figure, so carry a power bank for long days out.

Can I transmit on the air band?
No. The air band (108–136 MHz AM) is receive-only. Rules on monitoring aviation traffic differ by country, so check yours.

Does it receive NOAA weather?
The US version has 10 receive-only NOAA / Canadian weather channels with weather scan. These broadcasts exist only in North America, and the EU/UK version is not specified with this feature.

How far can it talk?
The manual gives no range figure and we do not quote one. With 5 W on 2 m / 70 cm, the longest contacts come in open, unobstructed line of sight; buildings, trees and hills shorten it, and a local repeater extends coverage.

Is it waterproof?
No. It has no water-resistance rating, so keep it dry and use a pouch in the rain.
