Quick start

  1. Charge first. The V12D charges over USB-C with any phone charger. Charge both radios fully before the first use.
  2. Switch on and choose a channel. Radios from the same V12D pack are on the same channel out of the box. If they cannot hear each other, check that both show the same channel and the same privacy code.
  3. Talk. Press and hold the PTT (push-to-talk) button, wait half a second, then speak; release to listen.
  4. Noise reduction is built in – if voices sound clipped in a quiet room, that is the noise gate; it opens normally when you speak at a normal level.
  5. Everything else is in the user manual. If you no longer have it, email ka@jucjet.com with “V12D manual” in the subject line.

Pairing & wireless cloning

The V12D can copy its channel and code settings to another V12D wirelessly, so a third or fourth radio joins the group in seconds without a cable or computer. Put the radios next to each other and use the clone/pair function described in the manual. Cloning only works between V12D radios; to talk to other PMR446 brands, simply set the same channel and code by hand.

Channels & frequencies

The V12D is a PMR446 radio. PMR446 is the harmonised European licence-free band between 446.0 and 446.2 MHz: 16 analogue channels, 12.5 kHz apart, starting at 446.00625 MHz. Every PMR446 radio of every brand uses these frequencies – which is why different brands can talk to each other. If your V12D shows channel numbers, they follow this plan.

Channel Frequency (MHz)
1 446.00625
2 446.01875
3 446.03125
4 446.04375
5 446.05625
6 446.06875
7 446.08125
8 446.09375
9 446.10625
10 446.11875
11 446.13125
12 446.14375
13 446.15625
14 446.16875
15 446.18125
16 446.19375
Two radios only hear each other when they are on the same channel and use the same sub-audio setting (a CTCSS or DCS “privacy code”, or no code on both). A CTCSS/DCS code is not encryption: it only keeps your speaker quiet until a matching tone arrives; anyone on the same channel without a code still hears you.

Range: what to expect

Range is set by physics and by law, not by the brand: PMR446 limits every licence-free radio in Europe to 0.5 W ERP with a fixed antenna, so no PMR446 radio has a legal advantage in range. What matters is the terrain and whether the two antennas can “see” each other:

  • Town or city, buildings in between: 300 m – 1.5 km
  • Campsite, park, suburb: about 0.5 – 2 km
  • Open flat ground, beach, field: 1 – 3 km
  • Hilltop to hilltop with nothing in between: 10 km+

Getting higher and holding the antenna vertical and away from your body add more range than any hardware change. Full explanation and terrain table: How far do PMR446 walkie talkies really reach?

The “up to 3 km” on the V12D box is an open-ground figure; in a town or inside buildings expect a few hundred metres.

FAQ

Do I need a licence to use the V12D?
No. Within the EU and in the UK the V12D works on PMR446, which is licence-free.
Can the V12D talk to walkie talkies from other brands?
Yes. Any PMR446 radio can talk to any other, as long as both are on the same channel and use the same CTCSS/DCS code (or no code on both).
Is the V12D suitable for children?
Yes – small, light, one-button push-to-talk, no SIM card or app. Charge it with the same cable as a phone.
Can I use the V12D in the USA?
No. The PMR446 frequencies are not open for this use in the USA; you need an FRS radio there (see our H888S FRS). In the UK, yes.
What if my V12D stops working?
2-year manufacturer warranty and 30-day returns. Email ka@jucjet.com with your order number and a short description of the problem.
