JUCJET TK11(5) Support: Setup, Bands, Software & Licence

The JUCJET TK11(5) is a quad band handheld for licensed amateur operators: up to 10 W on 2 m and 70 cm and up to 5 W on 10 m and 6 m, a 0.153–1160 MHz receiver with AM, FM, SSB and CW, a spectrum analyser, frequency meter, dual receive with two PTT keys, 999 named channels and a 7.4 V 2500 mAh battery. It is not a licence-free PMR446 or FRS walkie talkie. Amateur radio – licence required. Transmitting on the 10 m, 6 m, 2 m and 70 cm amateur bands requires a valid amateur radio licence under the rules of the country where you use the radio. Quick start

  1. Charge first. Charge in the desktop charging base, or top up through the USB-C port on the radio. Do not transmit while charging; you can listen, though reception may be weaker while charging.
  2. Fit the antenna. Screw it on hand-tight only and never transmit without an antenna fitted.
  3. Set a frequency or copy one. The frequency meter reads a nearby radio’s frequency and CTCSS/DCS tone: hold the two radios close with antennas fitted, then save the reading as a channel. Wireless Air Copy clones settings from another TK11(5).
  4. Choose the power level. Output is up to 10 W on 2 m and 70 cm, up to 5 W on 10 m and 6 m; High / Medium / Low. Use the lowest level that does the job and never more than your licence and local rules allow.
  5. Listen and talk. Dual receive watches two frequencies at once, and each has its own PTT key. The 10 NOAA weather channels with SAME alerts receive US and Canadian broadcasts; elsewhere they stay silent. Press and hold PTT, wait half a second, then speak; release to listen.

Licence & legal use

  • The TK11(5) transmits only on the 10 m, 6 m, 2 m and 70 cm amateur bands. Transmitting requires an amateur radio licence (and, where applicable, a callsign) under the rules of the country where you operate. Check your national regulator before you key up.
  • Your version decides the transmit bands. The US version transmits on 28–29.7, 50–54, 144–148 and 420–450 MHz; the EU/UK version on 28–29.7, 50–52, 144–146 and 430–440 MHz. The version you receive matches the market you order from.
  • The air band is receive-only. Rules on monitoring aviation traffic differ by country, so check yours.
  • Programming 446 MHz frequencies does not make it a PMR446 radio. PMR446 is a separate licence-free service for type-approved equipment limited to 0.5 W ERP. For shops, events or a family holiday, use a licence-free PMR446 set instead.

Amateur band edges and permitted power differ from country to country, so the ranges above are the radio’s capability, not a statement of what your licence permits. CTCSS/DCS is selective squelch, not encryption: it does not make a channel private or increase range.

Programming & software

  • Four ways to program: the keypad and menu, the frequency meter (read a nearby radio and save it), wireless Air Copy from another TK11(5), or a PC with programming software through the K-type headset/data port (programming cable not included – ask us which cable fits before you buy). The PC software is not in the Download Centre yet – request the current file by email and we will send it with instructions.
  • Do not install software made for another model on the TK11(5).
  • Manual: the printed manual is in the box; a PDF is not in the Download Centre yet (see Quick start).

Range: what to expect

There is no verified, model-specific field-test distance to quote on this page. On 2 m and 70 cm the longest contacts come with an open, unobstructed line of sight; buildings, trees and hills shorten range, and a local repeater extends it. Antenna choice and position usually matter more than switching to a higher power level.

FAQ

Do I need a licence for the TK11(5)?
Yes, to transmit. Receiving broadcast radio and the air band needs no transmit licence, but check your local rules on monitoring.
Which battery does it use?
A 7.4 V 2500 mAh Li-ion battery. The radio is 126 × 60 × 32.7 mm and 284 g. Charge in the desktop base or through USB-C on the radio.
Can I transmit on the air band?
No. The air band (108–136 MHz AM) is receive-only.
Can it receive shortwave and SSB?
Yes. Fit the included T-shape antenna (0.153–18 MHz, receive only) and choose AM, USB, LSB or CW. Reception depends on the antenna, conditions and your location; a longer shortwave antenna (sold separately) helps.
TK11(5) or TK11(8)?
Same bands, power, receiver and features. The TK11(8) has a metal front panel and a 3000 mAh battery; the TK11(5) has a grey front shell and a 2500 mAh battery and is lighter. TK11(8) owners: see the TK11(8) support page.
Where is the programming software?
Not in the Download Centre yet. Email ka@jucjet.com and we will send the current file with the matching instructions.
How far does it reach?
Range depends on terrain, antenna and obstructions far more than on the power setting. There is no verified distance for this model that we can quote, so test at the positions you will actually use.
What if my TK11(5) stops working?
