JUCJET T17 Support: Manual, Channels, USB Charging & Range

The JUCJET T17 is a licence-free PMR446 walkie talkie for families, outdoor days and small crews in the EU and the UK: 16 preset channels, VOX hands-free operation, USB charging, a built-in torch, a backlit LCD and two headsets in the box, sold as a 2-pack in high-visibility yellow and black. It is pre-configured, so there is no software to install. Quick start

1. Charge first. The T17 charges over USB with the cable in the box – a phone charger, a laptop port or a power bank will do. Charge both radios fully before the first use; the charging indicator is explained in the printed manual.
2. Switch on and check the channel. The two radios in a T17 pack come pre-configured and can be used as soon as they are charged. If they cannot hear each other, check that both show the same channel (table below) and the same code, then try again.
3. Talk. Press and hold the PTT (push-to-talk) button, wait half a second, then speak; release to listen. The short pause stops the first syllable being cut off, which is often mistaken for a weak signal. Only one radio can transmit on a channel at a time.
4. Hands-free (VOX). With VOX switched on, the radio transmits as soon as it hears your voice. If a radio “keys up” by itself in a noisy place, VOX is on – switch it off or lower its sensitivity as described in the manual.
5. Headsets. Two headsets are included. Push the plug fully into the 2-pin accessory socket before switching the radio on; a half-seated plug is the usual reason a headset stays silent.
6. Torch and display. The T17 has a built-in torch for the tent or the walk back to the car, and a backlit LCD you can read in the dark. The key assignments are in the manual.

Channels & frequencies

The table is the standard 16-channel analogue PMR446 reference plan, not a readout of this radio. The factory frequency-to-position map and CTCSS/DCS values for your model and batch have not been verified here. A channel number alone does not prove that two radios use the same frequency.

For compatible analogue sets, check the actual frequency and matching transmit/receive CTCSS/DCS settings, or disable tones on both sets where supported. CTCSS/DCS is selective squelch, not encryption; it does not make the channel private or increase range. Do not write a generic channel file to discover the original settings.

Range: what to expect

There is no verified, model-specific field-test distance to quote on this page. Buildings, floors, terrain, radio placement and interference affect intelligibility. Before relying on a set at work, check two-way speech between the actual working positions, especially stairwells and obstructed areas. Record the model, version and conditions with the result.

Compliant PMR446 equipment is subject to a 0.5 W ERP limit. A shared power limit does not prove equal real-world coverage between models.

Manual & software

• No programming software is needed for the T17. The 16 PMR446 channels are preset at the factory, and channel and code settings are changed on the radio itself as described in the printed manual. This is how the model is listed in our Download Centre (“16 preset channels – no software needed”). Do not install software made for another model on the T17.

FAQ

Do I need a licence to use the T17?

No. Within the EU and in the UK the T17 works on PMR446, which is licence-free for private use: switch on and talk.

Do I have to pair the two radios?

No. The two radios in a pack come pre-configured. If you use several T17 packs together, set every radio to the same channel and the same code by hand, then check speech in both directions before you rely on them.

Will the T17 talk to our 88E, EP31 or T20 Mini sets, or to another brand’s PMR446 radio?

For compatible analogue PMR446 sets – including our other PMR446 models – the actual frequency and the transmit/receive CTCSS/DCS settings must match, or tones must be switched off on both radios where the controls allow. A matching channel number alone does not prove that two differently programmed radios use the same frequency. CTCSS/DCS is selective squelch, not encryption; it does not make a channel private or increase range. Do not write a generic channel file to a radio to discover its original settings.

The radios worked together, then stopped after handling.

Check whether either radio’s channel changed accidentally while you were pressing PTT or carrying it. Return both radios to the settings that previously worked and check speech in both directions. A matching channel number alone does not prove that differently programmed sets use the same frequency and tone settings. If the problem remains, tell support what changed; do not reset or reprogram the radios as a first step.

Can I charge the T17 from a power bank or a phone charger?

Yes. The T17 charges from any standard USB power source with the cable in the box – the same cables and power banks you already carry. A radio that has been empty for a long time may need a few minutes on the charger before the indicator responds.

Can I use the T17 in the UK or the USA?

In the UK, yes – PMR446 is licence-free there too. In the USA, no: the PMR446 frequencies are not open for this use there; you need an FRS radio instead (see our H888S FRS). Please do not use the T17 in the USA.

Which spare earpiece or headset fits the T17?

Two headsets are already in the box. For spares or a different style, the manufacturer confirms that our acoustic-tube earpiece 6-pack, braided headset and speaker microphone fit the T17’s K-type 2-pin socket.

Why the yellow and black housing?

It is easy to spot on a beach, a campsite or a busy site, and easy to count back in at the end of the day or the shift.

The manufacturer confirms that the three accessories below fit the K-type 2-pin sockets on JUCJET 88E, EP31 (W31), T20 Mini, T17, V12D and H888S radios. A programming cable is not needed for the T17.
