Quick start

  1. Charge with the equipment and method supplied for your exact unit; consult its matching manual. The charging connector and indicator behavior for the current batch still need confirmation.
  2. Check the exact unit’s label, channel plan and conformity documents for your country before transmitting. Do not assume radios in one set share verified frequencies or tone settings; test two-way calls on an authorized channel.
  3. Talk. Press and hold the PTT (push-to-talk) button, wait half a second, then speak; release to listen. The short pause stops the first syllable being cut off.
  4. Hands-free (VOX). The EP31 supports VOX: the radio transmits when it hears your voice. If a radio “keys up” by itself in a noisy place, VOX is switched on – turn it off or lower its sensitivity in the menu (see manual).
  5. Everything else is in the user manual. If you no longer have it, email service@jucjet.com with “EP31 manual” in the subject line.

For compatible analogue sets, check the actual frequency and matching transmit/receive CTCSS/DCS settings, or disable tones on both sets where supported. CTCSS/DCS is selective squelch, not encryption; it does not make the channel private or increase range. Do not write a generic channel file to discover the original settings.

Range: what to expect

There is no verified, model-specific field-test distance to quote on this page. Buildings, floors, terrain, radio placement and interference affect intelligibility. Before relying on a set at work, check two-way speech between the actual working positions, especially stairwells and obstructed areas. Record the model, version and conditions with the result.

Care & battery

  • Water and dust status. Protection for the current batch has not been matched to an original test report. Keep the radio dry and avoid rain, spray and immersion until the exact unit’s protection is verified. Follow its matching manual before charging.
  • Battery. The EP31 uses a rechargeable battery pack. If a radio no longer holds a charge, email service@jucjet.com with your order number; replacement packs are handled by our service team (they are not yet listed in the shop).
  • Charging. Follow the instructions and supplied equipment for your exact batch; a universal USB charger has not been verified for every unit.

Software & manual

Updated 29 September 2026: EP31 V1.0.7 is the programming software for the European EP31. Download EP31 V1.0.7.

Check the exact unit, channels and matching documentation before use. MP31 is the US GMRS version; W31 is a factory designation and is not enough to choose software. The EP31 installer may display T20. Do not use an older W31/EP31 GMRS package, MP31 GMRS firmware or T20 FRS software on the European EP31.

CPS configuration software and firmware updates are different operations. Read the radio first and save a backup before writing any settings; do not install firmware. If reading fails, send the model label, cable photo and error screenshot to support. Opening the program on Windows does not prove it can read the radio.

What should I check before using the EP31?

Is the EP31 good for outdoor work and rain?
The current batch’s dust and water protection has not been verified with a test report. Do not rely on it for rain or wet outdoor work until the exact unit is confirmed; arrange a site trial and use dry conditions meanwhile.
Can I use the EP31 in the USA?
Use an FRS model there (see H888S FRS). UK use of this particular unit needs the same version and conformity check described above.
My four radios cannot “read” or “write” in the software – what now?
Check that you are using the EP31 test package supplied for your unit (see the warning above), the cable driver is installed and the radio is switched on with the volume up. If it still fails, email service@jucjet.com with a screenshot of the error.
What if my EP31 stops working?
Every EP31 comes with a 2-year manufacturer warranty and 30-day returns. Email service@jucjet.com with your order number and a short description of the problem.
The manual or label shows a different frequency band. What should I do?
If the frequency band on your radio label or manual differs from the product description you bought from, pause transmitting while the version is checked. Please send support a photo of the model label and the manual’s frequency/specification page. Include the purchase country and ASIN if you have not already provided them. Do not change firmware or write a channel file to try to make the radio match the description.
The radios worked together, then stopped after handling.
Check whether either radio’s channel changed accidentally while you were pressing PTT or carrying it. Return both radios to the settings that previously worked and check speech in both directions. A matching channel number alone does not prove that differently programmed sets use the same frequency and tone settings. If the problem remains, tell support what changed; do not reset or reprogram the radios as a first step.
