JUCJET 888HD Support: Manual, Software, Frequency Match & Licence

The JUCJET 888HD (also sold as the T20D) is a 430–440 MHz amateur-band handheld set for licensed operators – hiking, camping and off-road groups where everyone is licensed, radio practice and field days – with one-key frequency matching so two units are ready without a laptop or a cable. It is not a licence-free PMR446 or FRS walkie talkie. Quick start

  1. Charge first. The 888HD charges over USB-C, or in the desktop charging dock where your set includes one. Charge every radio fully before the first use; the charging indicator is explained in the user manual.
  2. Switch on and choose a channel position. The 888HD has 16 channel positions. Two radios only hear each other when they hold the same frequency and tone settings, so set all radios of the set to the same position first.
  3. One-key frequency match. To align two compatible units without a computer, hold the 888HD near the other radio while that radio is transmitting and use the match function (the key is shown in the manual). If nothing is matched, check that the other radio is actually transmitting on a 430–440 MHz frequency while you press the key.
  4. Plug in the headset. Headsets, belt clips and wrist straps are in the box. Push the headset plug fully into the socket; a half-inserted plug is the most common reason a headset stays silent.
  5. Talk. Press and hold the PTT (push-to-talk) button, wait half a second, then speak; release to listen. The short pause stops the first syllable being cut off, which is often mistaken for a weak signal.

Licence & legal use

  • The 888HD transmits on 430–440 MHz, which is an amateur band. Transmitting requires an amateur radio licence (and, where applicable, a callsign) under the rules of the country where you operate. Transmit only on frequencies and at power settings your licence class and national rules allow; check with your national regulator before you key up.
  • Programming 446 MHz frequencies into the 888HD does not make it a PMR446 radio. PMR446 is a separate licence-free service for type-approved equipment limited to 0.5 W ERP; the 888HD is an amateur-band radio and may only be used on amateur frequencies with a licence.
  • A group set only works within the rules if every person who transmits holds a licence. For shops, hotels, events or a family holiday, use a licence-free PMR446 set instead.

Channels & frequencies

The 888HD operates in the 430–440 MHz amateur band and has 16 channel positions. These positions are memory slots: what each one holds depends on how the radio was programmed or matched, and no factory position-to-frequency table has been verified for this page, so we do not print one. To see what is actually stored, read the radio with the programming software (below) and save that file before changing anything. A channel number alone does not prove that two radios use the same frequency and tone settings.

Programming & software

  • 888HD / T20D programming software (Windows): listed in the Download Centre under “Licence required (amateur bands)” → 888HD / T20D – same radio, two names, one download covers both. The package is a ZIP that contains a Windows installer, BF_FH_user_1.3.19_ia32.exe (about 82 MB): Download (same link as the Download Centre).
  • Read first, write later. Connect the radio, click Read and save the file before you change any setting. That saved file is the only way back to the settings the radio shipped with.
  • Programming Operation Guide (PDF): Download PDF – the general Read → check RX/TX → enter frequencies → Write sequence for our programming software; screens may differ from package to package.
  • Programming cable: the software connects through a USB programming cable. Our 2-pin USB programming cable lists the radios it is confirmed for on its product page; the 888HD is not named there yet, so email ka@jucjet.com with a photo of the radio’s socket before ordering a cable.
Driver troubleshooting (“radio did not respond” / “port not found”). 1) Install the driver that comes with the software package, then unplug and re-plug the cable. 2) In Windows Device Manager the cable must appear under Ports (COM & LPT) – select that COM port in the software. 3) Switch the radio on, turn the volume up and push the plug fully into the socket. 4) Try another USB port or a USB 2.0 hub. 5) Still stuck? Email ka@jucjet.com with a screenshot of Device Manager and the error.

Range: what to expect

There is no verified, model-specific field-test distance to quote on this page. Buildings, floors, terrain, radio placement and interference affect intelligibility. Before relying on a set, check two-way speech between the actual positions you will use, especially stairwells and obstructed areas, and record the model, version and conditions with the result. Antenna position and a clear line of sight usually matter more than the power setting.

FAQ

Do I need a licence for the 888HD?
Yes. The 430–440 MHz range is an amateur band. Transmit only on frequencies and power settings you are authorised to use in your country. If you want a radio with no licence at all, look at our PMR446 sets instead.
Is the 888HD the same as the T20D?
Yes. The 888HD and the T20D are the same radio sold under two names, and one software download covers both. If your label shows a different model name altogether, email us a photo of the label before installing anything.
Can it talk to PMR446 radios?
No. PMR446 is a separate licence-free service on different frequencies, and programming those frequencies into the 888HD does not make it a PMR446 radio (see “Licence & legal use”). If you need to talk to PMR446 radios, use a PMR446 radio.
One-key frequency match does not find the other radio – what now?
The match function only works while the other radio is transmitting on a frequency within 430–440 MHz and the two radios are close together. Check that the partner radio is really transmitting, repeat the key sequence from the manual, and if it still fails, program both radios with the software instead. Tell support which radios you tried to match.
Which set should I choose – 2, 4 or 6 radios?
The product page lists the 2-pack as a matched pair, the 4-pack for a small group with charging dock, and the 6-pack for team and club use. Every set is for licensed operators only; the number of radios does not change the licence requirement.
What is in the box, and do I need to buy earpieces?
Headsets, belt clips and wrist straps are included, and the radios charge over USB-C or in the desktop dock listed for your set. You only need to buy earpieces if you want spares or a different style – check the compatibility list on the accessory page first.
How far does it reach?
Range depends on terrain, buildings, interference and antenna position – not on a number printed on a box. There is no verified distance for this model that we can quote, so test at the actual positions you will use.
What if my 888HD stops working?
Every 888HD comes with a 2-year manufacturer warranty and 30-day returns. Email ka@jucjet.com with your order number and a short description of the problem.
